Inspired by the existing sand dune landscape along the waterfront of Coney Island Creek, Estuary Park employs landscape as a means of flood prevention while blurring the boundary between the urban and the natural. From the city edge to the waterfront, a carefully curated material palette traces this transition, creating a gradual urban–nature gradient. Solid architectural masses slowly dissolve into a light skeletal structure as they extend toward the water, allowing the architecture to recede into and become part of the landscape.
